RAILWAYS FREIGHT EARNINGS GOES UP
BY 8.93 PER CENT DURING 2002-2003
The Railways
earned Rs. 26782.22 crores from 518.48 Million Tonnes (MT) of
revenue freight traffic during 2002-2003 as compared to Rs. 24586.79
crores from 492.50 MT of such traffic during the corresponding
previous year 2001-2002, recording an increase of 8.93 per cent.
Of the total
earnings from revenue freight traffic during the year, Rs. 11571
crores came from coal, Rs. 1139.48 crores from raw material to
steel plants, Rs. 1321 crores from finished iron and steel from
steel plants, Rs. 631.65 crores from iron ore for exports, Rs.
2097.45 crores from cement, Rs. 3150.61 crores from foodgrains,
Rs. 1255.01 crores from fertilizers, Rs. 2664.86 crores from Petroleum
Oil and Lubricant (POL) and Rs. 2951.16 crores from other goods.
