THIRTY CRORE RUPEES EARMARKED
UNDER THE 10TH PLAN FOR MAULANA AZAD EDUCATION FOUNDATION’S
CORPUS FUND
Thirty
crore rupees have been earmarked under the 10th Plan
for the Maulana Azad Education Foundation. This was stated by
the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Sanjay
Paswan in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today. He said that
so far a sum of Rs. 70.01 crore has been released in three installments
to the Foundation towards it corpus fund. Of this Rs. 5.0 crore
were released in March 1993, Rs. 25.01 crore in March 1995 and
Rs. 40.0 crore in August 1997. Dr. Paswan said that the aim and
objective of the Foundation is to formulate and implement educational
schemes and plans for the benefit of the educationally backward
minorities in particular and weaker sections in general. The Foundation
provides financial assistance for establishment/ construction/expansion
of schools/hostels especially for girls belonging to educationally
backward minorities. It also provides financial assistance for
setting up/ strengthening of vocational/technical training centers
for educationally backward minorities as well as remedial coaching
for the students of such communities.
