IMPACT OF CNG ON POLLUTION CONTROL

Ambient Air Quality Monitoring data for Delhi reveals that there has generally been improvement in the air quality. This is attributed to the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) along with other measures taken for control of pollution.

Measures taken to control pollution in Delhi include :-

  • Improvement in public transport system.
  • Phasing out of old vehicles.
  • Construction of new Inter State Bus Terminus / bypass roads.
  • Setting up of automated inspection and certification facilities.
  • Supply of pre-mixed 2-T oil for two stroke vehicles and unleaded petrol.
  • Expansion of CNG supply outlets.
  • Setting up of Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) and Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs).
  • Shifting of industries from non-conforming areas.
  • Action plans have been prepared for metros for switch over to cleaner fuels and CNG has been introduced in Delhi and Mumbai.

This information was given by Minister of State for Environment & Forests Shri Dilip Singh Ju Dev in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
