UNELECTRIFIED VILLAGES IN UTTAR
PRADESH AND UTTARANCHAL
According to Uttar
Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), there are 97,135 inhabited
villages as per 1991 census. Of these, 56,746 villages have been
electrified as on 31.3.2003 (prov.) leaving a balance of 40,389
villages which are yet to be electrified. Similarly, there are
15,664 total inhabited villages in Uttaranchal, out of which 12,895
have been reported to be electrified as on 31.3.2003 leaving a
balance of 2,769 unelectrified villages. States have agreed to
complete electrification of all villages by 2007.
This information
was given by Smt. Jayawanti Mehta, Minister of State for Power
in a written reply to a question by Shri Lalit Suri in Rajya Sabha
today.
