SWAROZGARIS IN BIHAR

LOK SAHBA

The Swaranjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) is being implemented in rural areas of the country including all the districts of Bihar. SGSY is under implementation since 1st April 1999.

In Bihar, total number of 4,77,030 Swarozgaris have been assisted since inception and Ministry of Rural Development has allocated Rs. 47591.32 lakh from the year 1999 to 2003 to the State Government under SGSY.

SGSY is the major on-going programme for the self-employment of rural poor at present. The basic objective of the SGSY is to bring the assisted poor families (Swarozgaris) above the Poverty Line by providing them income generating assets through a mix of bank credit and governmental subsidy.

The SGSY is financed on 75:25 cost sharing basis between the State and the Centre.

This was informed by Minister of State for Rural Development Shri U.V. Krishanam Raju in a written reply to Shri Rajo Singh in Lok Sabha today.
