About
7,745 policies have been sold under the Jeevan Aadhar Plan specially
designed to make provision for the maintenance of disabled dependents.
The Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Satyanarayan
Jatiya stated this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
He said that more that 51.60 lakh rupees have been claimed against
52 death claims. The Plan administered by Life Insurance Corporation
of India was launched in January 1996. Under it an individual
can take assurance on his/her life to provide for payment of lump
sum and an annuity to the disabled dependent including mentally
retarded persons of I.Q. less than 50. The payment benefit is
made to the nominee who may either be disabled dependent or any
other person or Trust. The claim amount is to be utilized for
the benefit the disabled dependent.
