STEPS TO CHECK INDUSTRIAL POLLUTION IN DELHI

RAJYA SABHA

The Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi has reported that it has taken/propose to take adequate steps to check industrial pollution in Delhi so that health of the citizens is not adversely affected. Some of these are: -

  • Setting of fifteen Combined Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) to treat industrial effluent generated from 21 industrial areas of National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi is under progress.

  • Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) is monitoring Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) to have a close watch on the degree of treatment provided to domestic sewage. New stringent norms with respect to Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) have been specified for the new STPs coming up in Delhi.

  • The emissions of Thermal Power Plants have been brought within the prescribed standards.

  • In pursuance of the orders of Hon’ble Supreme Court in CWP No. 4677/85, a number of ‘H’ category industrial units (as per MPD – 2001) operating in the NCT of Delhi have been closed down. Further in compliance of the orders of Hon’ble Supreme Court, under the supervision of Nodal Agency and Govt. of NCT of Delhi a number of Polluting units functioning in non-confirming/residential areas in Delhi have been identified and closed down.

  • Steps have been taken/proposed to be taken to enforce the rules prescribed for Bio-Medical Waste, Hazardous Waste and Noise Pollution.
