FUNDS RELEASED TO ORISSA FOR PROVIDING SAFE DRINKING WATER TO BRACKISH AFFECTED HABITATIONS


Ministry of Rural Development has released Rs.151.97 lakhs to the five districts of Orissa for providing safe drinking water to rural habitations affected by brackishness.

Ministry has released Rs.23.82 lakhs to 8 problem habitations of Brahamagiri Block in Puri District, Rs.29.48 lakh to 12 problem habitations in Jagatsinghpur, Rs.61.38 lakh to 35 problem habitations of Chilka Block in Khurda District, Rs. 11.01 lakh to problem habitations of Tikarapanga and adjoining villages of Kendrapara District and Rs.26.28 lakh to 6 problem habitations in Nayagarh District on control of Brackishness under the Sub-Mission project.

Sub-Mission programmes of the Government of India were launched with the objective to provide safe drinking water facilities in rural habitations affected by water quality problems like fluorosis, arsenic, brackishness, excess iron, nitrate, etc. The States undertakes these projects.

The funding pattern for Sub-Mission projects is in the ratio of 3:1 between the Central and State Governments. 20 Per cent of Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) funds are earmarked and utilised for new projects under the Sub-Mission activities.
