BYE-ELECTIONS TO THE HOUSE OF THE PEOPLE AND LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF WEST BENGAL

The Commission had announced to hold bye-election to the Lok Sabha from 12- Nabadwip (SC) Parliamentary constituency vide Commission’s Press Note No. ECI/PN/11/2003 dated 10-04-2003, for which the poll was to be held on 21-05-2003. Due to some unavoidable circumstances the Commission has decided to re-schedule the programme for said bye-election.

The Election Commission has also decided to hold bye-election to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from 157-Vidyasagar Assembly Constituency, the vacancy caused due to the death of Shri Lakshmi Kanta Dey on 28.03.2003, a sitting member. The programme of bye-elections will be as follow: -

a) Issue of notifications 09.05.2003 (Friday)

b) Last date for making nominations 16.05.2003 (Friday)

c) Scrutiny of nominations 19.05.2003 (Monday)

d) Last date for the withdrawal of Candidatures 21.05.2003 (Wednesday)

e) Date of poll 08.06.2003 (Sunday)

f) Counting of votes 11.06.2003 (Wednesday)

g) Date before which election shall be completed 16.06.2003 (Monday)

The Commission has also decided to use electronic voting machines in this bye-election.

Model Code of Conduct comes into effect immediately.
