SIX MONTHS EXTENSION TO 3 SECTOR REFORM PROJECTS IN KARNATAKA


Ministry of Rural Development has given extension of six months to three Sector Reform Projects being implemented in Karnataka. Community participation through their contribution has been found excellent in these Sector Reform Projects. The extension is given from 1.6.2003 to 31.12.2003. These districts are Mysore, Bellary and Dakshina Kannada. During this period, if the physical, financial and process progress is found to be satisfactory, further extension could be considered.

Sector Reform Projects, launched in April 1999 aimed at mobilizing community participation in rural water supply programmes. Accordingly, on a pilot basis Sector Reform Projects are under implementation in 67 districts in 26 states. Total cost of 67 projects works out to Rs.2060. 45 crore. The Government of India’s share is Rs. 1922.85 crore. More than Rs.631 crore have been released to 67 projects.
