KVIC GENERATES EMPLOYMENT FOR 66
LAKH PERSONS
The Khadi and Village
Industries Commission (KVIC) under the Ministry of Agro and Rural
Industries, generated employment for 66.08 lakh persons during
the year, 2001-02. This included employment for 54.17 lakh persons
under the Village Industries sector, for 8.48 persons under Khadi
sector and an additional employment to 3.4 lakh persons generated
under the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP).
About 7050 exclusive
sales outlets are operating in various parts of the country in
addition to the departmentally managed Khadi Gramodyog Bhawans,
which promotes marketing of cottage industry products. Special
assistance is provided for organizing exhibitions and encourage
export of cottage industry products. As per the ‘khadi package’
announced by the Government, proposals are being collected from
the implementing agencies for modernization and renovation of
sales outlets.
