IMPROVING FREIGHT WAGONS


Indian Railways have introduced 100 kilometre per hour high speed wagon to bridge the gap between speeds of Mail/Express and freight trains.

In addition, stainless steel wagons have been introduced to overcome the problems of corrosion.

Besides, special purpose wagons for carrying steel coils have been introduced.

The other improvement in freight wagons includes development of improved version of Board Gauge open wagon to carry an additional 1.8 tonne load per wagon.

Bogie mounted brake system on wagons for enhanced safety and reliability during operation has also been introduced.
