POLICE NEEDS IMAGE CORRECTION – SHRI JAITLEY


The Minister of Law and Justice, Shri Arun Jaitley, has said that the police must make an earnest attempt for image correction by gaining confidence of the people and trying to become people friendly. Releasing the book "The Crumbling Edifice – Experiences and Thoughts of a Police Officer" by V.P.Kapur here today, Shri Jaitley said that in spite of the police performing onerous task in difficult situations and personal inconveniences, they do not get their due credit. The Law Minister said that the police officers owed their commitment to law.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Justice M.J. Rao, Chairman of Law Commission said that the police are not properly trained and deputed. He said that the police officers should not lose independent vision. The author, Shri V.P. Kapur, gave a brief account of his book. Dr. P.L. Sanjeev Reddy, Director, Indian Institute of Public Administration and Dr. J. Guha Roy, Associate Professor, IIPA also spoke on the occasion.

Shri Kapur, an IPS Officer with 34 years of service, had been Director General of Police in Uttar Pradesh and Manipur as also Chairman, Police Reforms Commission in UP.
