IMPROVING CLEANLINESS ON RAILWAYS

The Ministry of Railways has empowered Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) to carry out mechanised cleaning of trains and station premises as well as give pest control contracts. This also includes powers to contract one time cleaning of any area which may have become very dirty and need special inputs like purchase of certain equipment needed for sanitation related activities.

The DRMs did not have such power earlier. This will go a long way in carrying out major cleanliness drive on Railways in general and trains in particular.

The empowerment of DRMs is a sequel to declaring the current financial year 2003-2004 as the Customer Satisfaction Year, which if implemented faithfully, will improve cleanliness on Railways.
