SAFETY AIDS IN RAILWAY TELECOM

All the 16 Zonal and 67 Divisional headquarters of Indian Railways have been equipped with satellite phones for use in unforeseen accidents and other emergent situations.

These would also be used by stranded passengers to communicate from the site of accident for any assistance or for communicating their welfare to the relatives, friends and other near and dear ones.

In addition, 5 W walkie-talkie sets to the crew of all trains and 25 W VHF sets at stations on important routes have been provided to enable trains crew to communicate with each other and with the nearest Station Master in emergencies.

These telecom safety aids are to be extended all over the railways gradually to strengthen its safety and to make the rail services more responsive, caring and user-friendly.
