RS. 535 CRORE LIVESTOCK DISEASE CONTROL PROGRAMME

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved implementation of the Centrally sponsored Scheme on ‘Livestock Health and Disease Control’ during the 10th Five Year Plan. The Scheme will have a total outlay of Rs. 535 crore. The Scheme will have four components:

i. Assistance to State for Control of animal Diseases. (ASDCAD)

ii. Professional Efficiency Development (PD)

The Planning Commission has suggested convergence of all the existing Schemes on Livestock Health into one and agreed in principle to include a new component viz., Foot and Mouth Disease Control Programme in this Scheme for implementation during the 10th Plan. In view of this, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying clubbed the various components of the existing Schemes on Livestock Health including the proposed programme on Foot and Mouth Disease Control and implement the scheme on Macro Management mode. The Scheme was approved by the CCEA on Monday last.

The Scheme enables reduction of losses due to various livestock and poultry disease, increase in production of milk, eggs and wool, regular and continued availability of health animals for production of milk, eggs and wool and draught power and increase rural employment opportunities and incremental farm income, directly accruing to the most resource poor among the rural households.
