RS. 535 CRORE LIVESTOCK DISEASE CONTROL
PROGRAMME
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs
has approved implementation of the Centrally sponsored Scheme on
‘Livestock Health and Disease Control’ during the 10th
Five Year Plan. The Scheme will have a total outlay of Rs. 535 crore.
The Scheme will have four components:
i. Assistance to
State for Control of animal Diseases. (ASDCAD)
ii. Professional
Efficiency Development (PD)
iii. National Project
on Rinderpest Eradication (NPRE)
iv. Foot and Mouth
Disease Control Programme (FMD-CP)
The Planning Commission
has suggested convergence of all the existing Schemes on Livestock
Health into one and agreed in principle to include a new component
viz., Foot and Mouth Disease Control Programme in this Scheme
for implementation during the 10th Plan. In view of
this, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying clubbed
the various components of the existing Schemes on Livestock Health
including the proposed programme on Foot and Mouth Disease Control
and implement the scheme on Macro Management mode. The Scheme
was approved by the CCEA on Monday last.
The Scheme enables
reduction of losses due to various livestock and poultry disease,
increase in production of milk, eggs and wool, regular and continued
availability of health animals for production of milk, eggs and
wool and draught power and increase rural employment opportunities
and incremental farm income, directly accruing to the most resource
poor among the rural households.
