S S BHATNAGAR AWARDS – 2002 ANNOUNCED


The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prizes-2002, awarded annually by the CSIR to outstanding Indian research workers in seven disciplines of science and technology were announced here today at the CSIR Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh each.

The 12 scientists selected for the award this year are :

Dr. Raghavan Varadarajan, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Dr. Amitabha Mukhopadhyay, National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi both in Biological Sciences; Dr. Tushar Kanti Chakraborty, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad and Dr. Murali Sastry, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune in Chemical Sciences; Dr. G.S. Bhat, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Dr. Shankar Kumar Nath, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean and Planetary Sciences; Dr. Ashutosh Sharma, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, in Engineering Sciences; Dr. Dipendra Prasad, Harish-Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad and Dr. Sundaram Thangavelu, Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore in Mathematical Sciences; Dr. Sunil Pradhan, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow in Medical Sciences; Dr. Avinash Anant Deshpande, Raman Research Institute, Bangalore and Dr. Mohit Randeria, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai in Physical Sciences.
