CWC UNDERTAKES
SHIP FUMIGATION AT KANDLA
The Central Warehousing Corporation
(CWC), a Government and Public Distribution and an ISO 9002 and
ISO 14001 certified organisation, undertook furnigation of M.V.
Chief of Cherokee Carrying 9800 MT of export rice at Kandla Port
on 20th September, 2002. The cargo, exported by Satnam
Overseas Ltd. a leading food grain exporter through M/s Liladhar
Pasoo Forwarders Pvt. Ltd., was fumigated on board the vessel
using Phosphine (PH3), a safe grain fumigant. The vessel with
two hatches and four chambers was fumigated by a team led by Shri
M.B. Lal, Dy. Manager (Tech) under the supervision of Shri R.N.
Meena, Regional Manager, Ahmedabad and Shri B.B. Pattanaik, Commercial
Manager, New Delhi.
CWC is the only organisation in
the Public Sector recognized by the Directorate of Plant Quarantine
and Storage, Ministry of Agriculture, as well as Export Inspection
Council of India for undertaking preshipment and on board fumigation
of exportable commodities. CWC also undertakes general pest control
operations including pre and post construction anti termite treatments,
aircraft fumigation, disinfestations of rail coaches, deratting
operations in railway yards, good sheds, container fumigation
etc.
In view of growing exports and
the need of the foodgrain exporters for providing quality fumigation
facilities at Kandla, the CWC came forward to set up a Pest Control
Cell at Kandla. CWC is already providing about 45000 MT warehousing
facilities at Kandla Port including a Container Freight Station.
A modern CFS with about 1.40 lakh sq. meter of space is also under
construction in the Port which is scheduled for commission by
March, 2003. CWC has also an ambitious plan for expansion of its
activities at Kandla and has recently bagged the tender for development
of about 30000 MT most modern warehousing complex with value addition
facilities for cleaning, grading, packing etc. of foodgrains,
meant for export through Kandla Port.
