PM CONDOLES DEATH OF SHRI SHIVAJI SAWANT

The Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee has expressed grief on the death of noted Marathi writer Shri Shivaji Sawant. Following is the text of Prime Minister’s condolence message:

"I am deeply grieved to learn about the sudden demise of the noted Marathi writer, Shri Shivaji Sawant, in Panaji yesterday.

Shri Sawant will be long remembered for his best selling novel Mrityunjay which became immensely popular not only in Marathi but also in Hindi and other Indian languages. His other famous novel Yugandhar also won wide acclaim both in literary circles and among lay readers. His greatness lay in his ability to retell epic stories from the Mahabharata to modern readers.

I send my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family".
