DR. SANJAY PASWAN GIVES AWAY THE AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN ELECTRONICS – 2000-01

AWARDS FOCUS ON CONSUMER, INDUSTRIAL, ELECTRONIC COMPONENT SEGMENTS


Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Shri Sanjay Paswan gave away the ‘Award for Excellence in Electronics – 2000-01’ at a function here today. With a view to encourage the Indian electronics industry and to recognise outstanding achievements in different areas of electronics, the erstwhile Department of Electronics instituted Annual Awards for Excellence in Electronics in 1990. By recognising the outstanding achievements of the companies, the Government sought to set before the rest of the industry examples of excellence which can be emulated and improved upon. These awards have received considerable attention both within the industry and outside.

Separate awards were given in the following areas like Consumer Electronics, Computer and Related Products, Instrumentation and Industrial Electronics, Professional Electronics, Electronics Components and Materials, Computer Software, R&D in Electronics and Human Resource Development in Electronics.

Some of the Award Winners were Tata Consultancy Services, Mumbai for Computer Software, Samsung India Electronics Ltd., Noida for Consumer Electronics, Applied Electro-Magnetics Pvt. Ltd, Noida for R&D in Electronics, Moser Baer India Ltd., Noida for Computer and Related Products and BPL Display Devices Ltd., Ghaziabad for Electronics Components & Materials.

The award for R&D in Electronics was open to industry, academic institutions and R&D organisations. The award for Excellence in ‘Human Resource Development in Electronics’ was open only for the best run institution ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels in the DOFACC Scheme.

The qualifying criteria for consideration of the Awards depended on the last three years performance. The overall performance was measured through quantitative and qualitative parameters. For each category, there were two prizes. Sectorwise committees examined and evaluated the nominations received in different sectors for the Awards. All the committees are chaired by an eminent person from the industry or research institute. Most of the members of the committees are also from the industry.
