500 MW SIMHADARI
POWER UNIT COMMISSIONED 4 MONTHS EARLY
Second unit of 500 MW coal fired
Simhadari thermal power station of National Thermal Power Corporation
has been commissioned four months ahead of schedule according
to Central Electricity Authority (CEA). The first 500 MW unit
of the same thermal power project was commissioned in February
2002, one month ahead of schedule. The project is located in Karim
Nagar district of Andhra Pradesh and its early commissioning will
provide immediate benefit to Andhra Pradesh, which is entitled
to draw entire power to be generated by Simhadari thermal power
station. Central Electricity Authority had accorded techno-economic
clearance to the project in August, 1996 and investment approval
was given by the government in July, 1997. CEA has intensified
construction monitoring of various thermal and hydro power projects
coming up in the country with a view to ensure their time commission.
