SHAHNAWAZ HUSSAIN TO DISCUSS SECURITY ISSUES
WITH ICAO
The Minister for Civil Aviation Shri Syed Shahnawaz
Hussain will be leaving for Canada today for having wide-ranging
discussions with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO),
and Ministry of Transport, Government of Canada.
At Montreal, the Minister will be having detailed
discussions with Dr. Assad Kotaite, President, ICAO and Mr. R.C.
Costa Pareira, Secretary General, ICAO on the issue of Security
Audit on the pattern of Universal Safety Audit Programme of ICAO.
The issue of proposed scheme of War Risk Insurance will also come
up during the discussion. ICAO will also be making a detailed
presentation before the Minister on the issue.
The Minister will have bilateral discussion with
his Canadian counterpart Mr. David M. Collenette on the 18th
September, 2002. The two ministers are likely to discuss measures
to make movement of passenger traffic between the two countries
easier, considering the substantial number of NRIs settled in
Canada.
During his visit the Minister will also have
discussions with NAV CANADA, a private sector organization providing
air navigation service over Canadian airspace. NAV CANADA is one
of the rare organizations in the private sector in the world which
is providing air navigation service. With effect from 1st
November, 1998, NAV CANADA has become financially independent
of the Government. Its entire revenue is realized through user
charges.
The Minister will also have meeting with CHC
Helicopter International, at Vancouver for increasing cooperation
between the Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd. and CHCHI. An MOU has
been signed between the two companies on 7th June,
2002. The MOU, inter alia, provides for CHC offering contracts
for operation of Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd. all over the World.
It also provides for assistance in setting up world-class maintenance
facilities in India. CHC assistance in systems upgradation for
upgrading Pawan Hans operations to international standards is
also an important component of the MOU. Various steps to operationalise
this MOU will be discussed.
Shri Shahnawaz Hussain will also visit international
airports at Vancouver and Toronto and will have detailed discussions
with Vancouver Airport Services and Toronto Airport Development
Corporation.
