INDIA AND JAPAN TO DEVELOP ADVANCED MATERIALS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL
APPLICATIONS
India and
Japan are to collaborate in the joint development of advanced
materials for environmental applications. The CSIR’s National
Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur and
the National Institute for Materials Science located in Tsukuba,
Science City of Japan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding
in this regard.
The Advanced
Materials Laboratory of the internationally recognised Japanese
institute has contributed significantly to various aspects of
basic and applied materials science. The Japanese organisation
chose to collaborate with NEERI taking into consideration its
expertise and experience in the field of environmental materials
and their applications. Besides working together in the identified
field, the two Institutes will also make joint efforts to get
research sponsorship from global agencies. The MoU also envisages
exchange of researchers among the two institutions and sharing
of the research findings. Collaboration with the Japanese institute
will go a long way in securing international recognition to NEERI
and its scientific capabilities.
Environmental
protection, preservation and safety have assumed greater significance
in the backdrop of world-wide ecological degradation due to industrialisation
and globalisation.
