DEEMED UNIVERSITY STATUS FOR IIMC LIKELY


The Information and Broadcasting Minister, Smt. Sushma Swaraj inaugurated the new Auditorium of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication here today. Constructed at a cost of Rs. 5 crore the auditorium has a capacity of 418 seats with a total covered area of 1232 sq. metres. The auditorium has multimedia projection facilities, digital sound reinforcement with feedback eliminators, computer controlled stage lighting and access facilities for physically challenged persons. The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Shri Ramesh Bais and Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Shri Pawan Chopra were also present.

The Chairperson for the Institute Ms. Tara Sinha said on the occasion that the IIMC is likely to get deemed university status very soon. She said that the media scene has undergone a drastic change over the last few years. She said that the mediapersons must realize their role and responsibilities and help more and more people to involve them in the governance and nation building.
