The President of India,
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam inaugurated the state of the art, solid-state
dual energy, and digital, Linear Accelerator at the Dharamshila
Cancer Hospital and Research Centre here today. The Hospital is
one of the state of the art Cancer Care Centres in North India.
Inaugurating the
Linear Accelerator, the President said that the Hospital should
develop a three-pronged combined approach to cancer treatment.
Dr. Kalam called this the physio-psycho-immuno approach. The President
said stress is necessary on the psychological approach, because
cancer is such a dreaded disease, that a patient on hearing of
it virtually looses all hopes of recovery. Dr. Kalam urged the
hospital’s administration to have a patient friendly staff with
kind hearts, which could help in boosting the morale of cancer
patients admitted for treatment. The President also urged the
hospital to provide free treatment to poor patients.
Dr. Kalam also
interacted with some of the Doctors, visited various facilities
and also met patients admitted at the hospital.
