A separate unit is
to be set up within the NCERT which will be devoted to publishing
and marketing of books. This unit will basically oversee, on a
continuous basis, the quality and pricing of books being published
by the NCERT. This will help ensure important facets regarding
printing and publishing of books such as paper quality, translations
on time, timely printing and distribution. This was stated by
Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, Union Minister for Human Resource Development
while chairing the Executive Committee Meeting of the NCERT here
today.
As
regards the All India Survey of School Education to be conducted
by the NCERT, the Minister suggested that for collection of data,
services of retired personnel of All India, Central and State
Civil Services could be utilised. These retired people, settled
all across the country, would be easy to approach and honorarium
could be given to them for the purpose. This would help in the
data being more accurate as these persons would not have any personal
stake in the status of various parameters that would constitute
the school education survey. Dr. Joshi pointed out that correct
data is extremely essential for proper planning for the future,
whichever field it may be.
During
the meeting, it was also decided that a Regional Distribution
Centre for NCERT books would be set up in Guwahati. The Executive
Committee also expressed its satisfaction regarding the recent
Supreme Court judgement in the NCERT case.
