CENTRE FOR ADVANCEMENT OF MANUFACUTURING TECHNOLOGY INAUGURATED AT RAJKOT


Meeting the long cherished demand of the industrial sector of Saurashtra and Gujarat, the Centre for Advancement of Manufacturing Technology as a Wing of the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute, Bangalore was inaugurated at NSIC Campus All Industrial Area in Rajkot today by Shri Gingee N. Ramachandran, MOS (Finance) In his Presidential Address, Dr. Vallabhai Kathiria MOS Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises said although, Rajkot is a hub for production of engineering machine tools, there was no Centre to keep the local units abreast of global developments in precision tools. Domestic units had started feeling the pinch of advanced machine tools at economical prices being imported not only from the developed countries but also a number of developing countries booking of export orders has also been becoming more and more difficult. The Minister stressed that optimum utilisation of this Centre would pave the way for world class technology and assist local industry in facing international competition whole hog. This would be possible through higher productivity per worker, better quality, higher value addition, adherence to delivery schedules and add to overall production and exports from the Saurashtra Region and Gujarat State leading to higher and sustained employment in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ramachandran said that it was the untiring efforts of Dr. Kathiria that this Centre could start and this would facilitate in bringing prosperity to the region. Shri Ramachandran stressed that the new Centre through its laboratory would enable units to get ISO 9000 mark and improve quality.

Dr. Kathiria emphasized that this Centre would benefit the numerous engineering units of Saurashtra Region in their programmes of Design Upgradation, Quality System improvement, Upgradation of Knowledge and Skill of their personnel and Modernization of the manufacturing activities. He complimented the Rajkot Engineering Association, Rajkot Management Association and Rajkot Foundries Association, Rajkot Machine Tool Manufacturers Association, Rajkot Management Association and Rajkot Foundries Association, Greater Rajkot Chamber of Commerce & Industries etc. in playing very positive role in upgradation of the industries in this region. He assured full support of the Central Government in their endeavours.
