ANANYA – A WEEKLONG FESTIVAL OF INDIAN DANCE AT PURANA QILA


Delhi will witness a unique festival of Indian Classical Dance – ANANYA – the Unparalleled, featuring India’s premiere dance groups in each of the seven major Indian dance forms. The festival is being presented by Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forests and Delhi Tourism is being held at the Purana Qila monument in New Delhi from the 23rd to the 29th October, from 7.00 PM to 8.15 PM daily.

The uniqueness of this presentation is that the dancers will be virtually interacting with the monument – giving a feel of a dialogue with the heritage monument and site specific choreography highlighting the monument and the given dance form. One dance form will be showcased each evening.

This festival is being done as one of the official cultural programmes of the Conference on Climate Change being held in Delhi on the same days where nearly 4000 foreign delegates are expected to attend. The visiting foreign dignitaries would be able to witness - the richness of Indian Classical Dance forms at one of India’s major heritage sites, which will be richly lit highlighting the beauty and aesthetics of both monument and the form. To enable the delegates to reach the site-deluxe coaches will be plying from Vigyan Bhawan every evening to the Purana Qila. A brochure highlighting the various Dance forms and their origins and write-ups on each dancer would also be distributed at the time of check in at the Hotels.

We are determined to give a complete Indian feel t our tourists through innovative cultural events like these" says Shri Jagmohan, Minister for Tourism and Culture.

ANANYA will feature dancers like Pandit Birju Maharaj (Kathak), Bharati Shivaji (Mohinattam), Madhavi Mudgal (Odissi), Guru Sadanam Balakrishnan (Kathakali), Swapanasundari (Kuchipudi), Priti Patel (Manipuri) and Leela Samson (Bharatanatyam).
