INDIA OFFERS HELP
TO SYRIA IN SETTING UP BIOTECHNOLOGY INFRASTRUCTURE AND INFORMATION
TECHNOLOGY BASE
India would
help Syria in setting up a biotechnology infrastructure consisting
of a network of research centres and sub-centres. This would involve
sending of experts from India and training Syrian experts in India.
Finer details of the scheme of cooperation are going to be worked
out in the near future.
In
addition, India would help Syria in developing an information
technology base.
The
Deputy Minister of Higher Education of Syria, Dr. Mouhiddine Issa
met Human Resource Minister, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi today and
sought India’s assistance in these spheres. He said, Syria was
keen to use India’s experience and knowledge base in these areas.
The Minister also expressed his country’s keenness in strengthening
the agreement between the two countries in the field of education.
Since
Syria is going to evolve a bio-safety mechanism to control bio-piracy,
Dr Joshi also proposed that Syria may seek the expertise of India’s
Bio-safety Board in evolving adequate legislature and set-up.
