SCHOOL STUDENTS
EXPRESS CONCERN ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE
SHRI
T.R. BAALU INAUGURATES AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
"You are not
melting our home. But melting our future". This was the cry
in anguish of a group of Penguin birds feeling threatened in their
cooler climes, in a painting by Master Anurag Somani, a fifth
standard student of Manavsthali School, New Delhi. "Can we
stop the terror of climate change. This horror is too much"
says Ms. Aishwarya, a seventh standard student of Marter Die School
while her senior colleague Ms. Sukriti Dugal bemoans; "If
my future is doomed, global warming is to be blamed" in a
mixture of colours that highlights the alarming consequences of
climate change. These were an illustrative account of the feelings
and concerns of a large number of students who participated in
the Painting, Poster Designing and Slogan Writing Competition
organised by the Ministry of Environment and Forests in New Delhi
today. It was inaugurated by the Environment and Forests Minister,
Shri T. R. Baalu.
The Minister said,
on the occasion that protection of environment has come to be
the major challenge for the humanity all over the world as rapid
industrialization expedited the phenomenon of climate change with
serious consequences. He said that the Ministry has launched National
Green Corps (NGC) to promote environmental awareness among the
students all over the country. Eco clubs are being set up in 100
schools in each district of the country to begin with, said the

and Forests will be organising a series of public awareness programmes
including climate runs, climate marches, skits, nukkads etc. preparatory
