SHRI M.K. SHARMA
IS THE NEW DIRECTOR GENERAL OF FORESTS
Shri Mithilesh Kumar
Sharma has taken over as Director General of Forests and Special
Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forests. An officer
of Indian Forest Service ( 1971 batch), Shri Sharma was the Principal
Chief Conservator of Forests in the Maharashtra Government prior
to joining the Central Government in the present assignment. Earlier,
he served as Addl. Director General of Forests in the Ministry
of Environment and Forests.
Shri Sharma held
various important positions including that of Director General
of Indian Council for Forestry Research and Education. He was
actively associated with the conceptualisation of various national
documents for conservation of forests and tree genetic resources,
National Forestry Action Programme, Joint Forest Management etc.
For his initiative and contribution to forest protection and management
in Sahyadri mountains with people’s participation, Shri Sharma
was given the Best Afforestation Award for 1983 and 1984.
Shri Sharma joined
Indian Army as a Commissioned officer in 1964 and won several
Army Medals including Raksha Medal, Samar Sewa Star Medal and
Himalaya Medal.
