NATIONAL
SECURITY COUNCIL AND NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISORY BOARD TAKE STOCK
OF SECURITY SITUATION
The National Security
Council chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri A.B. Vajpayee and
including Shri L.K. Advani, Deputy Prime Minister, Shri George
Fernandes, Defence Minister, Shri Jaswant Singh, Finance Minister,
Shri Yashwant Sinha, External Affairs Minister, Shri K.C. Pant,
Deputy Chairman Planning Commission and Shri Brajesh Mishra, National
Security Advisor interacted with the national Security Advisory
Board on October 16, 2002 at Hyderabad House. Senior defence and
civilian officials of the Government of India also attended the
meeting.
The members of the
Board reviewed the national security situation arising from continuing
cross-border terrorism, the recent elections in Pakistan and the
successful conclusion of elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Latest
developments in the war against international terrorism were also
taken stock of. In this context, the NSAB made a series of recommendations
on how India should deal with the current situation. These recommendations
included political, diplomatic, economic and military measures.
Matters relating to internal security were also discussed.
Thanking the Board,
PM indicated that the government would carefully consider its
recommendations while taking appropriate decisions in the matter.
