RSP DEVELOPS A 50-TONNE DRUM FOR DSP BLAST FURNACE

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has developed a 50 tonne drum for the slag granulation plant of Durgapur Steel Plant’s Blast Furnace No. 3. The dimensions of the drum is 6 metres by 8 metres. The job look almost a year as the work started in November 2001. Developed at a cost of Rs. 92 lakh, the in-house endeavour has saved Rs. 58 lakh for the company. The design for the drum was provided by the Centre for Engineering and Technology (CET), Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL).

RSP’s accomplishment assumes added significance since this is for the first time in SAIL that such a large drum has been developed in-house. Earlier, it was being imported or was made by private vendors. Inspired by the success, the collective has now decided to take up the challenge of making another drum required for the Blast Furnace No. 1 of RSP.
