HOWRAH-DELHI RAJDHANI ACCIDENT DUE TO SABOTAGE - PRELIMINARY REPORT OF CRS


Shri Mahesh Chand, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Eastern Circle, Kolkata, held a statutory inquiry into the derailment of 2301 UP Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express train at Km. 508/19-21 between Rafiganj and Deo road stations on Gaya-Mughalsarai Grand Chord double line broad gauge electrified section of Mughalsarai Division of Eastern Railway at about 22.42 hours on 9th September, 2002. As a result of the accident, 116 persons died, 154 persons were injured, out of these 51 persons sustained grievous injuries and 103 received simple injuries.

According to the provisional findings of the Commissioner, appended with his preliminary report, the accident occurred due to "Sabotage". The finding is under the consideration of the Government.
