NITISH KUMAR INAUGURATES NEW RAILWAY ZONES AT JAIPUR AND HAJIPUR


Railway Minister, Shri Nitish Kumar has inaugurated North Western Railway, Jaipur and East Central Railway, Hajipur, today. With this the number of Railway Zones has gone upto eleven. The area of jurisdiction of North Western Railway will include existing Bikaner and Jodhpur Divisions of Northern Railway and existing Jaipur and Ajmer Divisions of Western Railway. The East Central Railway with headquarter at Hajipur has been created out of the existing Eastern and North Eastern Railways. This zone will exercise jurisdiction over existing Sonepur and Samastipur Divisions of North Eastern Railway and existing Danapur, Mughal Sarai and Dhanbad Divisions of Eastern Railway.

It may be recalled that recently Indian Railways has decided to implement the decision taken by the Union Government in 1996 and 1998 based on the recommendations of the Railway Reforms Committee-1981 to create new zones by territorial re-adjustment of existing zones. Of the seven new zones, carved out of the existing zones the above two Zones become functional from today while the remaining five will be operational from April next year.

The other five new zones are East Coast Railway, Bhubaneswar; South Western Railway, Hubli; West Central Railway, Jabalpur; North Central Railway, Allahabad and South East Central Railway; Bilaspur.
