The Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Communications and Information Technology Shri Pramod Mahajan inaugurated the Centre for Advanced Computing at the University of Mauritius, Port Louis today. He also delivered the key-note Address on the future of Information Technology and Partnership between India and Mauritius.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Mahajan offered to share India’s experience in undertaking policy initiatives in expanding IT&Telecom infrastructure, initiatives of the Government to build a pool of IT professionals as part of a sustained HRD component of Information Technology, the key policies of the Government in taking IT to the masses through expansion of village public telephony and the efforts to promote Cellular Mobile Services across the length and breadth of the country. The Minister said that IT as an industry would always remain multi-functional and multi-sectoral and all policy initiatives have to be undertaken keeping this in mind. In the coming decades, the vision of any Government would be to build a bridge between citizens and institutions of Governance, he added.

The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune and the University of Mauritius had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding in June this year under which C-DAC proposed to set up a Centre of Excellence to be called C-DAC School of Advanced Computing (C-SAC) in Mauritius. The C-SAC so established would be a Centre of premier research, consultancy and training institution in the field of Information & Communication Technologies (ICT). It would be a Centre of Excellence for high quality IT training and related development activities for Mauritius. It will also help in the development of human resources by training personnel and building requisite skills for spreading the use of information technology in Mauritius. The Centre would also help promote e-governance in partnership with the University of Mauritius.
