Dr. JATIYA CALLS UPON MEDIA TO REACH THE VAST DISADVANTAGED SECTIONS OF SOCIETY

NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON NIDDCP, RCH, AIDS AWARENESS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE & EMPOWERMENT CONCLUDES

The Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, Dr. Satyanarayan Jatiya, has called upon the media to reach the vast disadvantaged and unreached sections of the society such as scheduled castes, minorities, backward classes, children in need of care and protection, aged persons, persons with disabilities and victims of alcohol and drug abuse in order to provide succour to them and to bring them in the mainstream of national life through educational, economic and social development. This was stated by Dr. Jatiya, here today, while delivering the valedictory address at the 2-day National Workshop on NIDDCP, RCH, AIDS Awareness and Social Justice & Empowerment, organised by Directorate of Field Publicity of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. Participants included mediamen of the Ministry of I&B from across the country.

The Minister said that the Government has formulated umpteen number of schemes and programmes for the welfare of weaker sections of society. Regrettably, however, a large section of our marginalised people are not aware of such schemes because of their educational, economic and social backwardness. If this vast majority of weaker sections are made aware of such schemes, they would come forward to take advantage of these and to improve their lot. He said that Directorate of Field Publicity with its vast network of 268 Field Units across the country, is best equipped to reach the unreached people.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sahab Singh, Director General of DFP and PIO, said that these field units are exactly performing the same role as pointed out by the Minister, especially in inaccessible and remote areas of the country. He assured the Minister that already there is perceptible change in the lifestyles of the weaker sections in the society as a result of various economic, social, educational and development programmes among them.
