NAVY CONDUCTS FREE MEDICAL
CAMP AT JIND
The Indian Navy conducted
a two-day free medical camp at village Khairanti, Jind on 26 and
27 Nov 2002, as a part of the annual activities around the Navy
Week. The Indian Navy celebrates the Navy Week in the first week
of December every year and the Navy Day on Dec 04, to commemorate
the "Victory at Sea" of the 1071 Indo-Pak conflict.
Naval Medical Officers
specialising in Eye, ENT, Gynecology, Dermatology, medicine and
preventive medicine were deputed to the village for the Medical
Camp. Approximately, 1700 patients with various ailments were
treated and free medicines were distributed. A large number of
cases of skin diseases, upper respiratory tract infections, eye
and ear disorders, gynecological and other ailments were attended
to. Those requiring longer treatment were identified and advised
for follow up the local hospital.
As a measure to improve
awareness, a health quiz was also organized, between the boys
and girls of the village, which evoked a very enthusiastic response.
The quiz covered common topics and prizes were distributed to
the winners at the end of the competition.
Every year, it is
the endeavour of the Indian Navy to set up a Medical camp at a
village where medicines, specialized medical care and treatment
are not available. The medical camp is conducted in addition to
the public performances of the Navy Band, picnics organized for
underprivileged and mentally challenged children as well as a
host of other activities which are conducted at all Naval stations.
