MAHABHARAT FESTIVAL AT KURUKSHETRA
The Ministry of Tourism
and Culture in association with Kurukshetra Development Board
in Harayana Tourism is organising first ever Mahabharat festival
at Kurukshetra from 11-15 December, 2002. The festival will depict
various folk and art forms, create awareness about rich cultural
heritage and boost tourism in the area. Vice President, Shri Bhairon
Singh Shekhawat will inaugurate the festival on 11th
December, 2002. The Ministry of Tourism has started number of
projects at Kurukshetra and its neighbouring areas to develop
Kurukshetra as a cultural hub. Financial assistance from the Centre
is being provided to these projects.
The festival
will present a cultural panorama to the visitor about 1500 artists
from 7 zonal cultural centres will perform during the festival.
Grand Musical Spectacle choreographed by renowned artist, Mr.
Bansi Kaul will be a special feature. A craft mela and mural paintings
drawn on a 240 ft. wall by folk artists from all over the country
will give glimpses of folk art of various parts of the country.
Dance, drama associated with various episodes and art forms of
Mahabharat will also be presented by about 1200 artists in Bhojpuri
songs, Pandwani, Thangta Raas, Thirukoothu, Yakshgana, Chhau Sairikila,
geeti Natya, Satariya, Kalri forms. These performances would be
held in various villages associated with the Mahabharat epic located
in Kurukshetra district besides Pehowa town and Harshavardan park
of Thanesary city.
