SUGARCANE PRICE RATIONALISATION
The Ministry of Consumer
Affairs, Food & Public Distribution has referred the recommendations
of the Mahajan Committee on sugarcane pricing to the Commission
for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) and they have been requested
to recommend a new sugarcane pricing policy. CACP had accepted
the responsibility. A seminar on 'Pricing of Sugarcane' was held
and the representatives of the Central and State Governments,
sugar industry associations, sugarcane growers, research institutions
relating to sugar and sugarcane and leading agricultural economists
had participated in the seminar.
This information was given in the Lok Sabha today by Minister
of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Shri
V. Sreenivasa Prasad in reply to a question of Shri Prakash V.
Patil.
