REVAMPING PROCEDURES FOR EXPEDITIOUS JUSTICE

The Code of
Civil Procedure (Amendment) Acts, 1999 and 2002 came into force
with effect from July 1, 2002.
The Government
has set up a Committee under the Chairmanship of Justice V.S.
Malimath, former Chief Justice of Karnataka and Kerala High Courts
to consider measures for revamping the Criminal Justice System
and to make recommendations for the consideration of the Government.
The terms of reference of the Committee include examination of
the need to re-write the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, the
Indian Penal Code, 1860 and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872 to bring
them in tune with the demand of times and in harmony with the
aspirations of the people.
