NEW LOCATIONS FOR TAPPING OF WIND ENERGY


RAJYA SABHA

201 potential locations have been identified in 13 States to tap wind energy in the country. Six potential locations, namely, Chandipur, Chatrapur, Damanjodi, Gopalpur, Paradwip and Puri have been identified in Orissa.

Fiscal and promotional incentives are being provided and soft loans for commercial projects are available from Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA). In order to accelerate commercial development, the State Governments have been requested to announce conducive policies for grid connection and sale of electricity generated from wind power projects. A Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET) has been established in Chennai to provide technical support for wind power development. The Resources Assessment Programme is being continued to identify new potential sites in various States.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Non-Conventional energy Sources, Shri M. Kannappan in a written reply to a question by Shri Ramchandra Khuntia, in the Rajya Sabha today.
