CHILDREN OF TERRORISM/RIOT AFFECTED FAMILIES VISIT PRIME MINISTER’S RESIDENCE


A group of children, affected by communal/ethnic riots in different States, visited the Prime Minister’s House today and pinned a flag on the person of the Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee to mark the Communal Harmony Flag Day, which is being observed today under the aegis of the National Foundation for Communal Harmony, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The National Foundation for Communal Harmony set up in 1992, has so far assisted nearly 2500 children and disbursed a sum of Rs.5 crores to the child victims of communal, caste, ethnic riots or terrorists violence. Each child is extended financial assistance to the tune of about Rs.650/- per month upto the age of 18 years, which may be extended upto 21 years.
