STPI
AND BPML OF MAURITIUS SIGN MoU FOR COOPERATION IN DISASTER RECOVERY
SERVICES
The Software Technology Park of India (STPI)
and the BPML of Mauritius have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) for cooperation in the field of Disaster Recovery Services(DRS).
A MoU to this effect was signed in Mumbai yesterday in the presence
of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius Rt. Sir Anerood
Jugnauth and the Secretary, Department of Information Technology,
Shri R.R. Shah. The DRS Centre would provide facilities for data
backup, data recovery in the event of mechanical loss or otherwise
disaster leading to loss of Data/IT services, data synchronisation
on either side and such other services required for disaster and
data management. Both India-Mauritius would be linked with optic
fibre/satellite as required for provision of customer services.
Due to the attack on the World Trade Centre,
New York on 11th September, 2001, software companies
are looking for the DRS away from the location of the normal operation.
Protecting customers data is now the priority for which best of
need technology has to be deployed.
BPML has desired technical assistance for establishing
a similar kind of DRS in Mauritius. In addition to India, Mauritius
can be projected as an alternative DRS site for the American/European
companies. STPI would be extending technical assistance in setting
up such a Disaster Recovery Centre in Mauritius.
In its endeavour to constantly excel in its services,
the STPI is now focussing on providing a wide range of managed
disaster recovery services to protect and boost the export revenue.
Since STPI’s primary intention is to provide service to the exporters,
these managed services are made very affordable. As a pilot project,
STPI, Bangalore is forming strategic tie-ups with the current
and next generation storage technology vendors and service providers
for the common cause of protecting the revenue generating data
of Indian companies. To meet the requirements of its customers,
STPI, Bangalore is setting up a world class Remote Data Protection
facility in the first phase of the project. STPI would set up
similar set ups at other locations in the country. STPI Bangalore
has also established a ‘SAN excellence center’ and technology
lab, in partnership with Brocade and other technology companies
namely CA, Emulex, Exabyte and this center will demonstrate the
Storage Area Network (SAN) for its customers.
In this context of growing Indo-Mauritius bilateral
cooperation STPI has been nominated by the Government of India
as a nodal agency and Project Management Services for assisting
BPML in the implementation of the Ebene Cybercity Project and
other IT initiatives. The foudnation stone for the Ebene Cybercity
Mauritius was jointly laid by the Prime Minister of Mauritius
and the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Communications
and Information Technology, Shri Pramod Mahajan on 28th
September, 2002.
