NATIONAL CONFERENCE
TO PROMOTE INDIGENOUS SYSTEM OF MEDICINE
A National Conference
to promote and popularise the Indigenous System of Medicine and
Homeopathy within the ESI Scheme is being held at Vigyan Bhawan
on November 24, 2002. The Labour Minister Dr. Sahib Singh will
inaugurate the National Conference organised by the Employees
State Insurance Corporation.
About 400 delegates
from across the country have been invited to attend the one day
conference. The delegates comprise physicians in alternative system
of medicine as well as allopathic working for the ESI Scheme in
the States.
The Employees State
Insurance Corporation has so far established 124 dispensaries
in 5 States including the union territory of Delhi in Indigenous
System of Medicine. The total number of regular physicians in
alternative system of medicine is 142. About 870 part-time Insurance
Medical Practitioners are also providing integrated system of
medical care that includes Ayurveda, Homeopathy and Allopathic
to the beneficiaries of the Scheme. The Corporation has also set
up a special Sub Committee under the Chairmanship of Secretary
Labour for promotion and development of ISM within the Scheme.
The multi-pronged
conference on ISM is expected to give a wider exposure to the
delegates of the conference about the virtues of our traditional
systems of medication and thereby enhance its general acceptance
and adoption within the ESI Scheme that in itself is a big player
in the medical management of the country’s population. The Minister
of State for Labour Shri Ashok Pradhan will address the Valedictory
function of the Conference.
