DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AND MITIGATION


Government of India, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) are jointly organizing an International Seminar on "Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation" from 21-23rd November 2002 in New Delhi. This is a sequel to the earlier Seminar organized during June last year. The Seminar will mainly focus on Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation aspects pertaining to Natural Calamities like earthquakes, cyclones, floods and droughts. The broad structure of the proposed meeting covers seven thematic areas like early Warning Systems, Risk Analysis, Community Preparedness, Resource Strategies, Legal and Techno Legal Frameworks, Techno financing and Aids & Appliances in the context of Disaster Management. Experts on these areas from within and outside the country are participating in the three-day deliberations.

The Union Home Secretary, Shri N. Gopalaswamy will inaugurate the Seminar being held at the India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road.
