RSP TO ADOPT EMS ISO-14001 IN SINTER

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) of the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) has adopted Environment Management System (EMS)-ISO 14001 in Silicon Steel Mill and Environment Laboratory. The Environment Lab is also accredited with Central Pollution Control Board. The adoption of EMS-ISO 14001 in Sinter Plant-II is in the final stages of completion while plans are on the anvil to implement the system in plate mill in the next financial year.

RSP observes every year environment month from November 19 to December 18. This year, in observance of month, the plant has planned tree plantation, solid waste utilization, hazardous waste management, biomedical waste management, water conservation and training of the employees with a view to creating awareness. The plant is organizing a workshop on the topic "Steel Industry and Sustainable Development are compatible" and debate and essay competitions among the employees and school children on conservation of environment.
