ALL INDIA CONSUMER
PRICE INDEX FOR AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL LABOURERS INCREASES
The All-India Consumer
Price Index for Agricultural and Rural Labourers (Base 1986-87
= 100) increased during October, 2002 by one point each to stand
at 332 for Agricultural Labourers and 324 for Rural Labourers.
In case of Agricultural
Labourers, 14 states reflected an increase in indices between
1 to 5 points and four States showed decrease of 1 to 2 points
while the indices in two States remained constant.
In the case of Rural
Labourers, 13 states reflected increase in indices between 1 to
4 points and four State showed decrease in indices ranging from
1 to 2 points while the indices remained constant in three states.
West Bengal in respect
of Agricultural Labourers experienced sharpest increase of 5 points
whereas Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and West Bengal
in respect of Rural Labourers experienced experienced sharpest
increase of 4 points each. On the other hand, Haryana and Punjab
in respect of Agricultural Labourers and Punjab in respect of
Rural Labourers recorded maximum decrease of 2 points each.
Meghalaya continued
to be at the top of the index table both for Agricultural and
Rural Labourers with 346 points and 343 points respectively. Bihar
(including Jharkhand) and Manipur remained at the bottom of the
index with 300 points each for Agricultural Labourers while for
Rural Labourers Bihar was at the bottom with 301 points.
