PRIZE MONEY FOR HINDI
SCIENCE WRITING DOUBLED
The Department of
Ocean Development has enhanced the prize money for popularising
science writing in Hindi from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 50,000 for the
first prize. The second prize will be Rs. 30,000, Rs. 20,000 more
and the third prize to Rs. 20,000, Rs. 15,000 higher, all from
2003. This was announced by the Minister of State for Science
and Technology Shri Bachi Singh Rawat while inaugurating the 11th
National Scientific Hindi Seminar on "Samudri Oorja Evam Proudyogiki
Vikas", organised by the Department here today. Shri Rawat said
that the Government has already initiated a project to tap ocean
thermal energy and the one-megawatt pilot plant at Tuticorin off
Tamilnadu coast will soon undergo trial run depending on the weather
conditions. He also said that Mauritius has expressed keen interest
in setting up such plant with the help of India.
Shri Rawat appreciated
the Department for bringing out original works in Hindi on scientific
topics to popularise the official language. The Secretary, Department
of Official language Shri S.K. Tuteja, who was the Chief Guest,
commended the Ocean Department for organising such national level
seminars in Hindi on scientific subjects. He urged other departments
of the Government to emulate this. The Secretary, Department of
Ocean Development Dr. Harsh Gupta presented the first prize to
Shri Suresh Chandra Bhatia for his book "Mahasagar Audyogikaran
Hetu Bahumulya Sansadhan Srot".
