The Vishakhapatnam
Steel Plant (VSP) a public sector unit of the Steel Ministry has
produced 2.25 million tonnes (MT) of hot metal, 1,94 MT of liquid
steel and 1.71 MT of saleable steel during April-October, 2002,
thus recording a growth of 18, 16 and 11 per cent respectively
over the same period last year.
By producing 5,52,600
tonnes of sinter, 3,48,348 tonnes of hot metal, and 47,074 tonnes
of value added products during October, 2002, it has achieved
the best ever monthly performance since inception. It has recorded
best monthly performance in the production of liquid steel, cast
blooms, billets, bar, WRM, MMSM, finished steel and saleable steel.
VSP has also achieved best techno-economic parameters during April-October,
2002 in specific energy consumption and gross water consumption.
The company has recorded
a sales turnover of Rs. 351 crore during October 2002, a growth
of 16 per cent over the sales of October, 2001. The cumulative
sales turnover during April-October, 2002 reached Rs. 2382 crore
a growth of 13 per cent over the corresponding period last year
of Rs. 2104 crore. The domestic sales improved by 8 per cent and
the exports registered a growth of 63 per cent. The cumulative
net profit during the last seven months was Rs. 99 crore as against
a net loss of Rs. 135 crore for the corresponding period last
year.
